Artist Profile: Pamela Harnois
About Pamela Harnois
With a BFA in Watercolor from University of Massachusetts at Amherst and years of artistic exploration, Pamela combines technical skill with intuitive brushwork. Her watercolor paintings balance lightness and fluidity, reflecting her distinctive style. She embraces spontaneity, allowing colors to blend naturally and create striking contrasts. Her work draws viewers in with its dynamic play of light and shadow, as well as its thoughtful composition.
Artistic Vision
Pamela's paintings go beyond capturing moments—they evoke emotions, inviting viewers into a world where every brushstroke tells a story. She also has her own unique take on painting brush—she chooses Golden Maple’s calligraphy brushes for watercolor. Using a calligraphy brush instead of a traditional round watercolor brush is a novel technique, and when asked why, Pamela shared, “I love using calligraphy brushes for watercolor because of their unique responsiveness and versatility. The feel of the brush in my hand is fluid and intuitive, allowing for expressive, effortless strokes. The natural hair bristles hold just the right amount of water, giving me excellent control over washes and color intensity.”
Experience with Golden Maple Brushes
Pamela provides a new experience in watercolor painting, and the calligraphy brushes also enhance the painting experience. “One of the things I appreciate most is how well these brushes keep a fine point, making it easy to create both delicate details and bold, sweeping gestures. They also lift paint beautifully, helping me achieve soft transitions and layered depth in my work. Whether I’m working with defined brushstrokes or more intuitive, flowing marks, these brushes feel like an extension of my creative process.”
